Position is available to employees of the Associa! ted C.O.L.T. Staff of the University of Maine from 03-08-13 through 03-14-13 and open to external applicants thereafter.
Description:
Part time, 16 hours per week position funded for a three year period. Work schedule to be determined as needed. Valid Maine Motor Vehicle Driverâs License Required . Employee works to help identify and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) community resources available to support youth in the greater Blue Hill peninsula. The successful applicant will communicate with company members to become familiar with resources in the area, including STEM professionals such as local pharmacists, bankers, and boat-builders. Maintains records of these resources to be shared with the STEM Guide volunteer group as part of the orientation, and contribute them to the community STEM Resource Bank. This position will also work with volunteers in the community who are referred to as STEM guides who will provide support to ! educators and serve as mentors for youth interested in STEM. T! his position works in partnership with Cooperative Extension and the Reach Center, which is a program of the Maine Math and Science Alliance. Office location will be in the Blue Hill or Ellsworth area.
Qualifications: Demonstrated success in working independently. Work requires judgment, initiative and commitment to confidentiality. Demonstrated experience in making decisions regarding personal safety and the safety of clients in conjunction with the Extension Professional. High school diploma or equivalent and must be at least 21 years of age with at least one year experience in education, youth development, child development, STEM field or related field. Appropriate background checks will be required.
