Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Operations Supervisor, or the Charge Pharmacist, and in accordance with the department policies and procedures, assists with the routine, non-judgmental aspects of the delivery of hospital pharmacy services, the compounding and distribution of intravenous admixtures, and the compounding and distribution of chemotherapy admixtures. Obtains the supervising pharmacist's approval to perform duties that deviate from the established practice. Is able to perform duties delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Operations Supervisor, or Charge Pharmacist that are outside the above listed, as long as they are under direct supervision of a pharmacist
Requirements
High School graduate or equivalent.
Active enrollment in a pharmacy program OR enrollment in a pre-pharmacy program with anticipation of acceptance into a college of pharmacy.
If acceptance into a college of pharmacy doesn't occur then intern position becomes invalid. Registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by the Maine Board of Pharmacy, if enrolled in a pre-pharmacy program with anticipation of acceptance into a college of pharmacy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists the pharmacist with medication dispensing functions
Assists the pharmacist with intravenous and chemotherapy admixture functions
Assists the pharmacist with daily functions, only under direct supervision
Assists with the medication distribution and control functions
Assists with the medication packaging, preparation, and compounding functions
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of the records, reports and files of the department.
Assists with the medication procurement, storage, and inventory control functions
